On Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 8.30pm. AIMS will once again be turning out all non-essential lighting for one hour at our company premises and homes in calling for action to save our planet for future generations. This initiative forms part of our Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility program for 2010.
Since its inception three years ago, Earth Hour’s non-partisan approach has captured the world’s imagination and became a global phenomenon. Nearly one billion people turned out for Earth Hour 2009 – involving 4,100 cities in 87 countries on seven continents.
2009 was the first time AIMS participated in Earth Hour and we managed to save a total of 73kWh, falling short of our intended target of 100kWH. Nevertheless, it was a good first effort- the equivalent of carbon emissions from 0.12 barrel of oil consumed.
This year to make our participation in Earth Hour more meaningful, we will be contributing RM10.00 for each kWh we save during Earth Hour to the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF)- Malaysia for their effort in environment protection, nature and animals conservation work in Malaysia.
We’d like to invite you, to join us in this important effort by encouraging your employees, customers, suppliers and family members to do more than just turning off the light during that hour but adopting a more responsible lifestyle; starting from little, everyday things like switching to energy savings light bulbs, unplugging unused electronic devices, reducing waste, reuse, recycle, car pooling, planting trees and many more to save our planet, before it is too late.
Don’t forget—on March 27th at 8:30 pm, switch off. One simple hour that will help make the world a better place.
